Queen Bees maiden season 2017
In our 2016 race report I mentioned the club would be announcing further initiatives to build on the success of the men’s racing team. We were delighted to update the club and sponsors at our 2016 AGM that we would be launching a women’s racing team and recruiting young riders to develop racing opportunities for all.
Our ladies affectionately known as the ‘Queen Bees’, have taken the season by storm winning races with style and performing well in highly competitive elite level races. Their team spirit in training and racing for each other has been admired by fellow racers, officials and spectators. Their immediate success at the start of the season had seen other teams quickly single them out as a force to be reckoned with.
Their achievements in our maiden season will see our squad grow from 6 to 8 riders in 2018. However, the real success has been supporting a women’s team that will have a sustainable future and encourage more female cyclists to get involved in this great sport. We appreciate the support from our sponsors and club members and we look forward to the next season with real optimism.
